What is a hose clamp?A hose clamp is a piece of industrial hardware tool that is designed in order to attach hoses, tubes and various objects together. A hose clamp is commonly used in bathroom sinks, auto engines as well as fixtures. The fitting in which the hose clamp is attached is termed as a barb or sometimes called a nib. Typically, the hose clamp is placed first on the hose that will then be fastened to the barb. After this, the hose is then attached to the nib and then the hose clamp is tightened so that the hose will not be loosened. The design of the hose clamp allows it to secure a hose over a fitting. With a hose clamp, leaking and other seep outs are prevented because the flow of fluid is regulated and controlled. With this liquid regulation, fluid flowing through the hose is also averted. Other uses of a hose clamp would include attaching and securing hoses in an automotive system and for household plumbing system as well. This industrial tool is also used for certain instances when the user wants to build a strong band clamp such as applications that needs to use a zip tie or a duct tape. Today, there are a lot of hose clamp types available in the market. It is beneficial that you be knowledgeable of the many types of hose clamps so that you can select a hose clamp that would best apply for the project that you have. One type of hose clamp is the spring clamp. This by far is one of the simplest types of hose clamp available today. A spring clamp is a strip of metal that is shaped like a cylindrical spring, only with various protrusions. This type of hose clamp is squeezed around the hose using a pair of pliers. This tightening is done by pushing the protrusions towards each other. Spring clamps are popularly used for certain hoses that are hard to reach. This is because spring clamps are easy to fasten and easy to manipulate. However, this type of hose clamp has a limitation when it comes to how tightly they can be attached. The second popular type of hose clamp is the screw clamp. This type of hose clamp is composed of a metal slot and a screw that is used to tighten around the slots when it is turned. This type of hose clamp is usually used on certain hoses that are half an inch in diameter or larger than that. This clamp is also widely used in order to fix pipes easily and quickly in emergency cases such as when a water pipe was broken. This type of hose clamp can be attached immediately to the nib very tightly and firmly. Another type of hose clamp is wire clamps. This type of hose clamp consists of a wire that has a U shape. This clamp also has a screw that is placed through two captive nuts found on each end of the clamp. Hose clamps are very useful industrial tools but their functions are often limited because they are not generally utilized when the pressure of liquid that passes through the hose is of high amount. This is the reason why hose clamps are more popularly utilized for automotive purposes and around areas in the house that has a minimal amount of liquid pressure. View All: Hose Clamp |
