Common causes of hydraulic hose problems

It is a fact that hydraulic hose has a long service life. However, this long service life that hydraulic hose possess is significantly reduced because of various factors. Some of these factors would include poor maintenance and positioning of the hydraulic hose. Some people don't pay much attention to their hydraulic hose system not until a problem occurs. A hydraulic hose is an essential component of every hydraulic system. This is because hydraulic hose permits certain components to be positioned in the most effective and convenient places. This is due to the fact that hydraulic hose can bend around corners, can fit through tight spaces and can be placed in long distance installations. Hydraulic hose are not expensive in nature; fixing hydraulic hose problems are more expensive in fact. This is because fixing hydraulic hose problems would incur additional costs and these costs would include clean up, disposal, and replacement of lost hydraulic oil. With a hydraulic hose problem, other components may also be damaged such as charge pressure and cavitation damage to the transmission pump or motor. Aside from that, machine downtime is also very likely and this downtime may affect the user significantly. Below are some other common causes of hydraulic hose problems that one can look into to prevent hydraulic hose damages.

External Physical Damage - according to a number of hydraulic hose manufacturers an estimated 80 percent of all hydraulic hose problems occur because of external physical damage. These damages are attributed to pulling, kinking, crushing or abrasion of the hydraulic hose. These abrasions commonly become a problem when hydraulic hose rub each other or when the hydraulic hose is rubbed against surrounding surfaces where it is installed. In order to do away from this external physical damage, it is advised to ensure that clamps are kept securely. It would also be good if one pays attention to routing in case a new hydraulic hose is installed. It is also helpful to wrap hydraulic hose with polyethylene spiral in order to protect it from abrasion and other related damages.

Bending- Another common reason for hydraulic hose problems is multi-plane building. This multi-plane building means that a hydraulic hose is bent in more than one plane that which results to the bending and twisting of its wire replacement. It is said that multi-plane building is a result of poor hose assembly selection and can also be attributed to routing. Aside from that this can also be due to unsafe and inadequate clamping that may subject the hydraulic hose to various machine movements. According to experts, twisting a hydraulic hose five degrees can decrease its service life by as much as 70 percent. Furthermore, if you twist the hydraulic hose 7 degrees, its service life is lowered by as much as 90 percent.

Operating conditions- operating conditions such as very high or very low temperature can significantly lower the service life of hydraulic hose if not taken into consideration. This would also include frequent fluctuations and pressure that the hydraulic hose is subjected to. For instance, placing a rock hammer on a hydraulic excavator may damage the hydraulic hose because of hose fatigue acceleration.

If you want to maintain the service life of your hydraulic hose to its maximum level, it would be better if you pay attention to the factors that contribute to the decrease of its service life.
