Information on pipe fittings

Pipe fittings are used in order to connect two pipe ends together. Pipe fittings are also utilized to change the direction or the size of certain pipes. Today, there are a lot of pipe fittings available in the market and these pipe fittings are either made of plastic or metal. Usually pipe fittings have round shapes but there are also other pipe fittings available today that have different shapes and sizes depending on the pipe that it will be matched and attached on. Pipe fittings are commonly used for various applications that would include plumbing, waste, vent systems and many other industries. These pipes are usually utilized in order to transport fluids or solids depending on the area which they will be used. For those who have replaced the U-turn under their bathroom sink or those who have built their own sprinkler system, they might have heard of pipe fittings already. These pipe fittings are also used by many in order to run water and gas lines to set up a washer or dryer. Almost all pipelines whether it is steel, copper or plastic are put together in pieces through the help of pipe fittings. Pipe fittings are very important because they permit the lines to run around the corner, underground, over the ceiling or in just about any place that you need pipelines installed. For instance, if you want a pipeline to be placed around a corner, all you have to do is cut the pipe short of the corner so that elbow fitting can be set up at the end of the pipe. This elbow is a short pipe that has a 90 degree bend. With this elbow bend, the pipes can be securely connected on both ends that will now provide a clean turn. There are two ways on how pipe fittings are connected to pipes. These ways are through threads or through slip fit. Usually, metal pipes are threaded while plastic pipes can be slip fit or threaded as well. As its name implies, threaded pipes are screwed together for them to connect. Slip fit pipes on the other hand utilize sleeves that are slipped into one another.

It is good to note that pipe fittings are structured by female and male connectors. For male threaded pipe fittings, threads are found in the exterior, these threads are made to screw into the inside of a huge diameter pipe end with an internal threading. For female threaded pipe fittings, threads are found interior which are made specifically to receive male threaded pipe fittings. For male slip fits, take note that they have no threads and are made to slip into a slightly larger female sleeve. The female slip fit on the other hand also has no threads and are made to receive a narrower male slip fit.

When you are on the lookout for pipe fittings, it would be good that you'll know that pipe fittings can have two varied connector types. One end of the threading may be male threaded and the other end may be female threaded. If in case you want to purchase a plastic pipe fittings, one end of this pipe may be male slip while the other end may be threaded. It can also happen that pipe fittings have matching ends that will accommodate any necessity.
